Loft Beds

Great Ideas For Saving Space

Make The Most Of Limited Space With A Loft Bed

Most children and teens have only a limited amount of space available in their bedrooms. One way to maximize the use of this space is by adding a loft bed. These beds are similar to bunk beds in that the sleeping surface sits high off the floor. This leaves room for another bed or additional storage underneath.

For older children, it might be wise to consider a loft bed with desk so that the child can set up a work station beneath the bed. There are many different ones available that include a computer desk and/or book shelf for additional storage. Some include space to add a futon chair below so that a guest can have a place to sleep when staying over.

One can generally choose between two sizes of mattress for these beds. Most common is a twin loft bed, but for teens and older children one might wish to consider a full size loft bed. The larger bed also includes a larger space for a work station, game center, or additional storage space for a dresser or other furniture.

In many ways, a full loft bed has several advantages over the smaller twin size because it is larger and yet allows for more storage. It is often possible to include both a computer or game station and bookshelves or dresser beneath these beds.

When one considers the fact that most secondary bedrooms are quite small when compared to the master bedroom, it is easy to see how the available space can be filled quickly. The benefit of using a loft bed is that many other items can go into the space below so that an entire room worth of furniture can literally occupy the same square footage as the bed alone.

Children and teens often find that they enjoy the higher beds as well. The reasons are not completely clear, but it could have something to do with a child’s innate need to climb. Though these beds may not be appropriate for very young children, they are ideal for those of elementary or middle school age and up.

There are many places that offer such beds for sale. One can easily preview them and see for oneself the way they save space and integrate other furnishings and features into their construction at virtually any major furniture store or bedding outlet.

One may also shop online and probably find a wider selection at better prices. Some online shops even offer free shipping as well as having certain accessories available such as the optional futon chairs, bookshelves, or desks for creating a work space below if it is not already integrated into the bed that is chosen.

Assembly may take a bit longer than setting up a standard bed, but the benefits of maximizing the use of available space will more than make up for the extra effort that goes into putting everything together and creating a room that your child can be proud to call his own.
